  • The art program for the Klarman Building at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is deeply rooted in the desire to promote a healing environment and inspiring experience. The program is modeled on evidence-based design, with healthcare studies showing that art and aesthetics can impact patient outcomes and length of stay. Keeping this in mind, the art program for the Klarman Building is intended to welcome, soothe, restore, and enhance the experience for patients, visitors, and staff alike.

BIDMC, in collaboration with Boston Art, commissioned more than 250 works of art specifically for this building. The choice to feature primarily emerging local artists and art reflective of the regional landscape is an outward expression of the communities BIDMC serves. Not only does the program include a broad range of artists from across the medical center’s geographic patient base—it also strives to reflect the richness of its local communities and natural environment. The Klarman Building’s art collection is designed to foster healing, provide connection, and promote diversity, accessibility, and inclusion—which are at the core of BIDMC’s mission.
