The Engine

CAMBRIDGE, MA

  • Client: MITIMCo
Developer: Black Diamond Real Estate Advisors

  • Initially built in 1910 and formerly home to the Polaroid Corporation, 730 & 750 Main St. Cambridge is now The Engine—a transformative incubator for new companies in the Tough Tech sectors. Boston Art curated an artwork program that effortlessly complements the unique interiors, the building's current design philosophy, and the historical origins of the space. A dynamic steel sculpture mirrors the industrial chic interior while bringing a pop of color to the space. Meanwhile, polaroid-inspired wall covering acts as an ode to the building’s history, emulating polaroid pictures while creating an intriguing visitor experience. Finally, an original drip painting adds new hints of color to the space, acting as a complement to the impactful commissioned sculpture.
